Mikava – Character & Weapon Design

Mikava is a curious and inventive young girl from a humble village, driven by a dream to become a master engineer. Using her mechanical skills and hand-built contraptions, she works to improve the lives of her people while uncovering long-forgotten world. She is the main protagonist in the story of Parallel Skies, contributing both brain connection to the old word's power along her journey.

The top image showcases a character sheet featuring Mikava in various outfits and her core design. The lower image highlights a concept page for her primary weapon—the Engineer’s Wrench—along with a progression of mechanical upgrades it undergoes as she evolves throughout the story.

Both illustrations were created in Clip Studio Paint using a Wacom tablet.

Lady Midnight – Character Concept Design

Lady Midnight is one of six original characters created for a personal story-driven video series on YouTube, which also serves as a narrative prequel to my in-development game project, Parallel Skies. She is a seven-foot-tall celestial being who has been banished to Earth, where she travels alongside five companions to uncover the truth about her mysterious father and the growing threat of shadowy entities that now cross between the celestial and mortal realms.

The image above showcases Lady Midnight’s character sheet and core outfit design. On the left are early concept sketches exploring her silhouette and expressions, while the bottom-right illustration depicts her in her celestial form—highlighting the contrast between her divine origins and her current exile.

African-Inspired Female Warrior – Character Design Sheet

This character design was created for a 3D modeling project commissioned by a colleague. The request was to design an African-inspired female warrior. Through multiple iterations, I explored variations in color palette, hairstyle, and clothing, allowing the client to mix and match features to arrive at a final look that suited her creative vision.

The image below shows the final concept chosen for 3D modeling. This version includes a clear, labeled breakdown of the character’s elements to assist in the modeling process. I also created detailed close-ups of key accessories, including the bracelet, belt, and earrings, to ensure accurate translation into 3D.

Rin – Character Design

Rin is an original character designed for a game concept centered around four reincarnated souls navigating a machine-generated world. Her visual design draws inspiration from traditional Japanese aesthetics, blending elements of the geisha and samurai to reflect both grace and inner strength.

The top-left image includes facial and hairstyle sketches exploring Rin’s silhouette and personality. The bottom-left image presents early outfit design variations, focused on balancing elegance with functionality. The final illustration on the right depicts Rin in her fully realized form, capturing her calm intensity within a surreal digital setting.

Vida – Character Design

Vida is one of four playable characters from the same original game concept as Rin, where reincarnated souls awaken within a machine-generated world. Each character represents a unique cultural and thematic perspective—Vida's design is inspired by Mexican culture and folklore, reflecting themes of tradition, spirituality, and identity.

  • The image on the left presents Vida’s character sheet, featuring her base outfit and a transformation design. This version shows her in a youthful form, in line with the original concept where the protagonists begin their journey as younger versions of themselves.

  • The image on the right is a full illustration that captures her essence within the stylized setting of the game world.

This piece is part of a broader visual development project blending cultural storytelling with speculative sci-fi themes.

Dress-Up Game Assets – Unity Project

The assets below were created for a doll dress-up game I developed using the Unity game engine. Inspired by the dress-up games I enjoyed as a kid, I set out to create my own version as a fun passion project—with the added challenge of completing it within one week (7 days).

For this game, I designed a variety of customizable features, including 4 different eye shapes, multiple hairstyles, mouths, noses, 2 pairs of shoes, and a wide selection of clothing items. The images shown here represent the base designs, including the base doll model. From these, I created various color versions that were implemented into the final game.

Initially, I planned to allow full color customization using sliders—enabling players to change each clothing item’s color and adjust the doll’s skin tone. However, to stay within my time limit, I opted to include pre-colored default options instead.

You can learn more about this game under the Games tab in my portfolio.

Pot Designs – Match-3 Game Concept

The four images above showcase pot designs I created for a personal match-3 game project. Each design was inspired by a mix of African and Middle Eastern pottery shapes and patterns, with the goal of creating visually distinct assets that would be easy to recognize in gameplay.

In the planned game, players would match three identical pots to score points and progress through levels. Although I ultimately decided to discontinue the project, I chose to share the completed assets for free on my Itch.io page so other creators could use them.

Environmental Assets – Ignis Game Jam Project

The assets to the right were created for my game Ignis, developed during the Thatgamecompany x Core Blazer Game Jam 2025. The theme of the jam was "Generosity", and these assets were designed for level construction and in-game obstacles.

For the art style, I aimed for a painterly approach that emphasizes color, shading, and texture over hard outlines. This choice was intentional—to create a visual contrast that complements the game’s minimalist aesthetic. The backgrounds and walls were made using simple shapes and flat colors, allowing the textured assets to stand out while still feeling cohesive within the game’s world.

Elemental Clash – Collectible Card Game Concept

These card designs were created for a personal collectible trading card game project titled Elemental Clash. Each card features a unique character, their elemental alignment, their elemental opposite, and compatible pairings that influence gameplay. The game combines tactical positioning with elemental synergy, and the card art is inspired by various cultural folklores, deities, and mythical creatures.

Game Overview

  • Players: 2

  • Deck Size: 25 cards per player

  • Setup: Each player places 6 cards face down to form their starting team or "army" on the field.

  • Turns: On their turn, players flip a card and can stack or build teams by placing additional cards on top of any flipped card on their side of the field.

Combat Mechanics

  • Players can only attack the enemy card that is directly across from their own team.

  • Once that opposing card/team is defeated, the victorious team may:

    • Attack a new enemy team (at half damage), or

    • Be traded out or combined with other allied teams.

  • A defeated team can be replaced by placing a new card face down in the same space. Once flipped, it can attack or be attacked like normal.

Elemental System

  • Elements: Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Light (Sun), and Dark (Moon)

  • Complementary Groups:

    • Fire, Earth, Sun

    • Water, Wind, Moon

  • Teams with compatible elements gain bonuses in attack, defense, or unlock special abilities.

  • Incompatible elements may weaken a team or cause negative effects.

Art & Design

  • The visual style is line-heavy with bold, flat colors and selective blending (especially for skin tones).

  • Each character card was designed to represent a different myth, folklore, or cultural origin, with its own unique abilities.

  • Future expansion packs (called Generations) were planned. Each Generation would be illustrated by a different artist—either reimagining existing characters or creating new ones—giving collectors the ability to choose cards based on their favorite artists or styles.

This project has been put on hold for the time being, but I have used these card designs for a Match game I created in unity.

Commissioned Playing Card Designs

These playing card designs were created as a commission for an independent card game developer who requested a color-coded system. Each color represents a different card type—attack, defense, or special—within the game’s deck. The cards shown above present various layout concepts I developed, exploring different ways to incorporate the requested color scheme while maintaining clear functionality and visual appeal.

UI and HUD Mockups

UI & HUD Mockups – Fragmented (BigByte Game Jam 2025)

The images below showcase UI and game HUD mockups I created for Fragmented, a game developed during the 2025 BigByte Game Jam. The theme of the jam was "Fragmented", which we explored through memory, storytelling, and gameplay.

Set in New Orleans, the game follows four friends who return to their hometown and play a mysterious matching game. As players make specific matches, they trigger memories tied to a spooky event from their past. Each character’s memories reveal different pieces of the larger story, encouraging players to uncover the full truth by viewing the event through multiple perspectives.

For this project, I collaborated with a team of four developers, with my main contributions being Narrative Design and User Interface (UI) Design.

The image above displays the in-game HUD used during card play. The background artwork was created by one of the artists on our team, while I focused on the HUD layout and interface elements to support clarity and gameplay flow.

The heart icons above are two life indicator designs I created to represent the player's remaining lives. The full heart symbolizes an active life, while the fractured heart indicates a lost life. The team ultimately chose the second design (right) for its softer, curved edges, which better matched the overall tone and visual style of the game.

Text Design – Mardi Gras Theme

I created the text design above using a combination of Canva and Clip Studio Paint. The original font, “DingosStamp”, was selected in Canva for its bold, stamped look. I then added a custom white cracking texture over the letters to enhance the distressed effect before exporting the design to Clip Studio Paint.

In Clip Studio, I cleaned up any artifacts, applied a subtle blur for visual softness, and adjusted the color palette from its original pink and blue to purple and green—evoking the festive colors of New Orleans Mardi Gras.
